The 10th FIG Individual Apparatus World Cup for men and women, which is a blue riband event of the Qatar Gymnastics Federation (QGF), is expected to have gymnasts from 30 countries.

The four-day competition will be held at the Aspire Dome from March 22 to 25.

“The QGF wants to produce another successful event like the previous nine editions. It’s a major competition which has been held also in Cottbus (Germany), Melbourne (AUS) and Baku (Azerbaijan). The past tournaments have helped us in a big way to understand the intricacies involved in hosting a major event. We’re confident to deliver the best,” said QGF President Ali Ahmed Al Hitmi, who is also one of the seven FIG Executive Committee members.

The sport has seen a massive growth in the last one decade, thanks to QGF’s hard work and implementation of various programmes in the schools besides having it at their own training centres at Khwala and Luqta, with the World Cup will help Doha prepare itself for the next year’s FIG World Championships.

The QGF led by Al Hitmi was recently praised for its way of functioning by the former FIG president Bruno Grandi, who stepped down after 20 years at the helm last October.

“Doha is praised for its excellent hospitality by the athletes and various sports federation heads. The infrastructure and organisation is one of the best. We look forward to produce yet another top-class event. The World Cup will be a good opportunity to develop the sport not only in the country, but also in the region. It’ll help us gain further mileage for next year’s World Championships. Our experience in hosting the annual World Cup in March will motivate us to stage one of the best events,” said Al Hitmi.
