15 April, 2025

DOHA: The Qatari capital is gearing up to welcome the world’s top gymnasts as the 17th edition of the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup (Taishan) kicks off tomorrow, April 16, at the iconic Aspire Dome.

Running through April 19, this prestigious event will feature a stellar lineup of Olympic-level athletes competing across four action-packed days.

This year’s competition brings together 46 male and 27 female gymnasts representing nations from around the globe, joined by 35 international judges to ensure top-tier officiating.

The first two days (April 16–17) will host the qualification rounds, while the finals are scheduled for April 18 and 19.

Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) events will be contested across six apparatuses, while Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) athletes will compete in four.

The Middle East’s leading World Cup event has also drawn a host of seasoned stars, including Olympic medalists and World Cup veterans.

Among the standout names are Uzbekistan’s Oksana Chusovitina, Armenia’s Artur Davtyan, Kazakhstan’s Nariman Kurbanov, Chinese Taipei’s Tang Chia-Hung, and China’s You Hao — each renowned for their expertise in their respective apparatuses.

Returning to the venue where she claimed her first major senior international title in 2023, Romania’s Sabrina Maneca-Voinea is set to make a powerful statement in Doha as she competes on her signature events — the Balance Beam and Floor Exercise.

For Armenia’s Hamlet Manukyan, performing under the roof of Aspire Dome offers another golden opportunity to shine. Fresh off a standout performance on the Pommel Horse in Osijek (CRO) last week — where the 17-year-old Junior World Champion secured his first World Cup title — Manukyan continues to build an impressive resume.

Also making headlines in Doha are Swiss brothers Matteo and Luca Giubellini, who are competing in their first World Cup appearance since the Paris 2024 Olympics. Matteo, the younger sibling, made waves in Paris with a strong 10th-place finish in the All-Around, and both brothers are eager to carry that momentum into this next chapter of their careers.

Qualifications for Men’s Floor Exercise, Pommel Horse, and Still Rings, along with Women’s Vault and Uneven Bars, will be held on April 16.

The following day, April 17, will feature qualifications for Women’s Balance Beam and Floor Exercise, as well as Men’s Vault, Parallel Bars, and Horizontal Bar.

The top performers will then advance to the apparatus finals, scheduled for April 18 and 19.

Spectators can look forward to electrifying routines from some of the world’s most accomplished gymnasts, making this edition one of the most anticipated yet.

Broadcasting rights for the finals have been secured exclusively by Al Kass TV, with additional international networks providing extended coverage, ensuring the event reaches a global audience.

The championship is organized by the Qatar Gymnastics Federation (QGF) with support from the Qatar Olympic Committee.
