Doha: US gymnast Marvin Kimble, who will be competing at the 11th FIG Artistic Individual World Cup here from March 21-24, is a firm believer of consistency.
“I will have to be very consistent on all events to secure my spot for the 2020 Olympic team,” he had said in an interview some time back. “At the end of the day, it’s all about hitting routines. That’s my main focus right now.”
Kimble along with Alec Yoder will represent USA at the Doha event.
Kimble’s acumen in high bar, pommel horse and rings were enough to get him the nod for the FIG World Championships in Montreal, Canada, last October.
The 21-year-old, who is the reigning 2017 US still rings and high bar champion, trains four hours a day six days a week. As part of his training, he builds in 4-5 competitions and rest periods which happen every 4-5 weeks.
“Olympic ambition can be achieved by remaining dedicated to your training programme and keeping your eyes on the prize,” he added.
Kimble, who trains his eyes on the Tokyo Games, Kimble has an advice for the juniors.
“The path to compete for Team USA and the Olympic Games is an exciting and gruelling journey. My 14-year journey has had awesome wins as well as setbacks,” he said.
