DOHA: The 17th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Doha drew praise from Morinari Watanabe, President of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), who lauded both the high level of competition and Qatar’s stature as a world-class host.

Witnessing the event firsthand, Watanabe expressed his admiration for the quality of the performances, particularly in the men’s and women’s artistic gymnastics (MAG and WAG) finals and the qualifying rounds, which he described as featuring “high-level competition.”

Reflecting on Doha’s role as a consistent host since 2008, Watanabe emphasized how the city has evolved into a cornerstone of the international gymnastics calendar. “Qatar has firmly established itself as a key destination on the global gymnastics map due to its exceptional infrastructure, experience, and talented organizing teams,” he said.

Each edition in Doha, he noted, brings something new and exciting, a testament to the Qatar Gymnastics Federation’s commitment to excellence. Watanabe also highlighted the success of past events, including the prestigious 2018 FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships held in the Qatari capital.

“I’m happy to be in Qatar,” Watanabe concluded, commending Doha’s continued impact on the sport and its growing legacy as a premier venue for international gymnastics.
