DOHA (Qatar): The Qatar Gymnastics Federation President Mr Ali Ahmed Al Hitmi will be contesting for one of the three vice-president posts at the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Elections in October, 2021.

The election will be held during the 83rd FIG Congress in Antalya (Turkey).

Mr Al Hitmi is currently one of the members on the FIG Executive Committee.

“I’m indebted to the Qatar Olympic Committee and I thank all my friends and colleagues who have supported me,” said Mr Al Hitmi.

The international body, headed by Japan’s Morinari Watanabe, will also elect seven EC and 21 Council members (by continental representation).

“It’s a privilege to represent Qatar at the FIG,” added Mr Al Hitmi.

Meanwhile, under his chairmanship Doha is all set to host the 13th FIG Artistic Gymnastics Apparatus World Cup at the Aspire Dome from June 23-26.

“We’re waiting for this event since the pandemic outbreak had forced the tournament cancellation last year,” said Mr Al Hitmi.

“I thank the Qatar Olympic Committee, Aspire Academy and other stakeholders for their unstinted support in hosting this year’s event.”

A total of 26 countries have registered for the high-profile tournament.

But this year’s competition will be held without fans due to the strict Covid19 protocols in place.
