DOHA: Jordan and Arab world’s star MAG gymnast Ahmed Abu Al Saud lived up to his reputation on the Pommel Horse after he won the gold at the at the 16th Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Championships here at the Ladies Indoor Hall today.
It must be mentioned here that the Jordanian, who amassed 15.500 points on Friday, won the Asian Championships gold in the Qatari capital two years ago.
The 28-year-old pipped reigning world champion on pommel horse, Rhys McClenaghan of Ireland, who finished third (15.233).
After winning the gold at the Asian event, Ahmed became the first gymnast from his country win a medal (silver) at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool (England).
He followed it up with another medal (bronze) at the 2023 World Championships in Antwerp (Belgium).
24-year-old McClenaghan is a double world champion on pommel horse after having won gold at the 2022 and 2023 editions, but Ahmed Abu had the last laugh amid the presence of local fans.
Lee Chih Kai of Chinese Taipei (15.400) took the silver.
Nariman Kurbanov (KAZ) 15.133 and France’s Benjamin Osberger (14.733) finished fourth and fifth respectively.
In men’s rings finals, Armenia’s Vahagn Davtyan, Nikita Simonov (Azerbaijan) and Samir Ait Said (France) won the respective medals.
