DOHA: The first Vice President of men’s Technical Committee at international gymnastics federation (FIG), Jeff Thomson praised the efforts of the Qatar Gymnastics Federation in hosting the 16th Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Championships (Taishan).
The competition starts with the MAG and WAG qualification rounds at Qatar Women’s Sports Committee Hall at Aspire Zone from tomorrow.
“The organisation is excellent. Qatar Gymnastics Federation (QGF) does a fantastic job. The competition will be incredibly important because it will be final event from which athletes will earn the golden ticket for the Paris Olympic Games as well as the overall World Cup champion.,” said Thomson, who attended the mandatory TC meeting ahead of the start. “It will be a perfect competition to finish the World Cup series.”
On the new venue, he said, “The venue is fabulous because it’s nice and small and all the spectators can get a very good view of the performances. I thank the QGF for supporting the FIG and hosting this very important event.”
President of Qatar Gymnastics Federation Ali Al Hitmi, who is also the Chairman of the tournament’s organizing committee, praised the efforts of the various committees entrusted with the responsibilities to deliver a successful event.
“We’ve gained great experience through organizing the tournament for many years. We are committed to deliver yet another successful event this time as well,” said Al Hitmi, 1st Vice President FIG.
President WAG TC at FIG, Donatella Sacchi said that the competition will be an interesting one as it’s going to the be last in the World Cup series.
“It’s a very important competition. This event in Doha will be the last competition of the World Cup series for this Olympic cycle. After the finals, we will know the winners of the Series and also those who qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics. It’s going to be an incredible event not only for the gymnasts but also for the spectators and fans around the world who will be waiting for the results of their favourite gymnasts,” said Sacchi.
